The Power of Juicing For Weight Loss & Health
Joe Cross was one hundred pounds overweight and needed several medications to stay alive. In a little over eight weeks, he lost all of his extra weight and kicked every medication. How did he do it?
By Juicing. That is the topic of Cross’ 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. In the film, feeling like he is at the end of his rope, Joe Cross sets off on a 60 day journey across America, drinking only fresh fruits and vegetables made in his juicer.
Cross’ weight loss success is startling, and as a physician, I do not recommend such a radical approach to weight loss, but he has become a bit of a folk hero and his story isn’t unique. The medical community has also caught on to the health benefits of juicing healthy fruits and vegetables.
In my practice, I have witnessed the power of juicing and what it can do for one’s health. Even Doctor Oz has explained the benefits of diet juicing to thousands on his hit TV show.

How Juicing Can Benefit Your Health Overall
We all need our fruits and vegetables. They are chock full of the essential nutrients that minerals the human body needs. I know that for many, eating enough fruits and vegetables is easier said than done. Through juicing, you can make a tasty drink that will leave you feeling satisfied and will ensure that you get the nutrients your body needs.
• Weight loss
• Immunity boost
• Improved digestion
• Increase in energy
• Better sleep
So now that you know the benefits……I bet you want to know…..
What is a juicing diet?
It is a diet that uses the juice from blended fruits and vegetables from a juicer. A juicer is a machine that will effectively break down fruits and vegetables into juice that you can drink. By ingesting your fruits and vegetables in juice form, your body is more easily able to process the essential vitamins and minerals, which aids digestion. It’s not necessarily healthier than eating solid fruits and vegetables, but it is an excellent way to make sure you get the nutrients your body needs. If you can replace some of your carb and fat heavy meals with fresh-juiced fruit and vegetables, you will be on your way to better health and weight loss.
But remember, you will still need a healthy balance of fiber and protein. Eating lean meats (think chicken, turkey, or fish) and solid vegetables in addition to juicing will ensure that your body has all of the essential nutrients it needs to leave you feeling great all day!
In last month’s blog post, I talked about proper nutrition using the Glycemic Index to lose weight. While you try juicing, you’ll need to fill in the rest of your meals with other healthy options. Check out the post to learn more about nutrition and diet foods.
